Grading Policy
This course will require not only a mastery of knowledge but also require that you develop new skills. Assessment of learning will be done with two types of scores, formative and summative. Formative assessments are scores for assignments such as homework. These are opportunities for you to develop your skills and test you understanding of the content before it’s too late (you are now adults--which makes you citizens!!) Summative assessments are scores for quizzes exams and projects.
Formative Assessment: 20%
Summative Assessment: 80%
Retake Policy: History is full of second chances. That is why we take this time to better understand it—so that we might prevent repeating it. For every quiz or exam you will have the opportunity to retake the assessment, regardless of the score you received on the initial assessment. The score from the retake assessment will be recorded in the grade book. Will you learn from your history?
Late Papers: Any assignment not turned in on the date upon which it was due, will automatically go into the grade book as a zero until it is received. Once an assignment is late, you have a one day grace period in which to turn in the assignment for full credit. On the second day it is late, it will be docked 10%.
Plagiarism: Any work submitted is expected to be original. Facts and opinions should be of your own creation and in your own words. If plagiarism is found it will be dealt with. The assignment will receive a zero until the work is completely redone and the final product will be docked 10%.
